Giovanni di Bartolomeo Cristiani, a 14th-century painter, was a close adherent to the Florentine School, and has been described by Vasari to have studied under Cavallini. His active painting years range from 1367 when he worked in the church of S. Salvatore to 1398 and executed the frescoes illustrating the genealogy and the Life of Christ in the church of the ‘Disciplina dei Rossi’.

His work reveals in its plasticity a strong influence of Andrea Orcagna and Taddeo Gaddi. Richard Offner (see below) has also attributed his hand to an important polyptych in the collection of the late Mr Harold Acton, in Florence, representing the Virgin and numerous saints.
