Portrait head of a Philosopher: The beard and hair cut suggest that this is a philosopher or a poet. These portraits were generally used for funerary purposes.

Exhibited in Rheinische Museum Bonn, 1973; published in ‘Antiken aus Rheinischen Privatbesitz’, catalogue of the exhibition at the Landesmuseum, Bonn, 1973, pl. 368.

Provenance: This sculpture was part of a private collection of antiquities in Germany gathered together in the 1960s and 70s. Chevalier collection, Konstanz am Bodensee, Germany
